Banking for Seasonal Workers in Poland: A Practical Checklist (2026)

Updated: 2026-10-01 · ~2 min read

Status: October 1, 2026. Advice is general; pick the offer against your real season length and income sources.

The typical situation

Seasonal workers (agriculture, construction, logistics) usually earn a PLN salary from one Polish employer during the season, keep money at home between seasons, and often send part of it abroad. The banking setup that works for them optimizes three things: cheap remittances, zero-cost idle months, and fast local payments (instant transfers for salary, ATM cash, BLIK card).

Do you need two accounts?

  • Usually no: one PL account + your home-country account covers most seasons. The PL account handles salary, spending and sending money out; the home account receives it.
  • When it makes sense: you regularly receive income from both systems (e.g. seasonal work in Poland and stable income at home), or you need a second PLN currency/IBAN for a landlord. In that case make sure the less-used account has a true 0 PLN inactivity fee.
  • The trap: opening a "free" PL account and then not using it for months = inactivity fee every idle month. Check the schedule before the season (see reading fee schedules).

What to optimize

NeedWhat to look for in the offer
Salary deposit (PLN)free instant Elixir transfer into your account; app notifications on
Sending money home regularlylow FX spread + low SWIFT/SEPA fees, or a remittance service (Wise etc.) that works with your PL account
Cash locallydomestic ATM withdrawals free (standard in most offers)
Daily spendingdebit card + BLIK; contactless works everywhere in cities
Idle months between seasons0 PLN inactivity fee, or close the account and reopen — cheaper if your season is short

Checklist before the season starts

  1. Documents ready: passport + proof of stay (visa/work permit) + Polish address (opening without PESEL).
  2. PESEL — worth getting if your season is long (simplifies NFZ, taxes, some bank features).
  3. Choose the offer by 12-month cost for your real use pattern, not by the ad.
  4. Test one small SEPA/SWIFT transfer home before the first big one — corridors and correspondent fees differ.
  5. Keep copies of your work contract/salary proof in the app — AML requests are routine for seasonal earners (see account freezes).

Affiliate slot: seasonal-worker-friendly offers (0 PLN idle months) — to be wired via Money2Money (CPA) after publisher registration.
