Bank Account in Poland for Foreigners

How to open and keep a Polish bank account as a non-resident: PESEL, documents, fees, transfers — step by step.

Opening a Polish Bank Account as a Ukrainian Citizen (2026)

Updated: 2026-10-01 · ~2 min read

Status: October 1, 2026. Dedicated offers for Ukrainian citizens are adjusted over time — check the current status of each offer on the bank's site before applying.

Why dedicated offers exist — and their current status

Since 2022, several major Polish banks launched simplified offers for Ukrainian citizens (simplified documents, sometimes opening via home-country phone number, app language in Ukrainian/English). Some of these offers were adjusted or closed later — do not rely on old articles or social media screenshots; verify the current status on the bank's own site. The basic payment account right (PRP) applies independently of any marketing offer: if you have legal stay in Poland, the bank cannot refuse you an account.

Documents you will need

  • Ukrainian biometric passport or ID card (valid).
  • PESEL — strongly recommended (not mandatory for the account, but simplifies NFZ, taxes and some bank features; see how to get a PESEL in Poland).
  • Proof of address in Poland: registration (zameldowanie) certificate, rental agreement, or other document accepted by the bank.
  • Status document: residence permit, visa, or temporary protection ("LT") — if your legal stay does not come from the passport alone.

Practical tips

  • Language: many branches have staff who speak Ukrainian; apps and key help pages are usually available in English/Ukrainian.
  • Phone number: some dedicated offers accept a home-country (+380) number; others require a Polish SIM. Check the onboarding form before you start.
  • What you get: PL IBAN, debit card + BLIK, online banking, PLN/SEPA/SWIFT transfers.
  • If you are a seasonal worker — read banking for seasonal workers before choosing the offer (remittance fees matter a lot).

Common problems and fixes

ProblemTypical fix
"We do not open online for your document type"go to a branch with passport + proof of stay; the account still cannot be refused (PRP)
Rejected because of missing PESELonly marketing offers can do that; insist on the basic payment account or pick another bank
Card delayedcourier 3–10 days is normal; verify the delivery address (temporary addresses need care)
Account blocked for "outdated data"update your residence document in the app/branch as soon as you get a new one

Affiliate slot: dedicated Ukrainian-citizen offers — to be wired via Money2Money (CPA) after publisher registration; only current offers.
